HW261 Single Conductor Power Cable 2KV Armored
The Type P Marine Shipboard is yet another awesome Marine Cable which you’d consider if you’re looking for a 2KV marine cable. There are many cables that could serve the same purpose but there are a number of unique qualities of this cable which makes it a first choice for some applications. It’s not exclusively for marine applications, it’s highly versatile. Regardless of the kind of environment you carry your operations in, Nassau Electrical always has a cable for your electrical needs and this a good example of our top notch marine cables. Operating environments that are marshy andabrasive need cables specially engineered to withstand the harsh environments and defy the odds to ensure optimal transmission in your lifetime. Nassau does not only sell cables for unique applications but also cables that offer high levels of safety and productivity. The Type P Marine Shipboard 2KV Unarmored 1100 C Gexol Insulation is a single conductor power cable with excellent features to withstand the harshest of environments. In this post, I share with its features, standards and applications.
Conductors
Type P Marine Shipboard 2KV cable is a single conductor cable with soft annealed tinned copper per IEEE 1580 table 11. Thanks to the high strand count conductors, the cable is very flexible. Flexible conductors make installations easier than the case with rigid cables because they can bend and fold as per the needs of the user.
Insulation/ Jacket
The cable has a Gexol insulation that is a cross-linked flame retardant polyolefin. The flame retardant cross linked polyolefin is produced during a fire breakout by the non-chlorinated flame retardant system to enhance safety of the cable in case of a blowout. This insulation material meets the set requirements for Type X 110 of UL 1309/CSA 245 which defines a low toxin content and low corrosive gas emissions for marine shipboard cables. Being a product of low toxin content, it is very safe for use by the people doing the installation so they don’t have to worry about any health hazards. Corrosive gasses on the other hand would cause the conductor to rust fast hence reducing its lifespan. So low corrosive gas content means that this cable will last longer than other marine cables with higher amounts corrosive gas.The insulation has a voltage of 2 kilovolts.
Ratings and Approval
It is always good to work with a product that has been tested and proven safe by international standards. This cable has been proven safe by a number of standards including the following;
1.NVE 95/1696, FAL
2.Transport Canada
3.Det Norske Veritas (DNV)
4.Lloyd's Register of Shipping (LRS)
5.American Bureau of Shipping (ABS)
6.United States Coast Guard
7.CSA listed as Marine Shipboard Cable
8.UL listed as Marine Shipboard Cable
With such a large number of internationally recognized initiatives approving this product, you can be sure it’s a safe and reliable product.
Features and benefits
Considering this cable is for use in harsh marine environments it has high resistance to moisture and ensures stable transmission of power all through the life of the marine facility it’s put to use on. The cable has also lower dielectric constant as well as higher insulation resistance which helps to reduce all sorts of power losses. The Type P Marine Shipboard Power Cable has a high strand count of conductors. This special feature makes it very flexible and the flexibility consequently makes the installation process of the cable easier. The high strand count conductors also make the cable more resistant to vibrationsthan typical commercial cables like Type MC Cables. Ships are exposed to vibrations caused by waves and the need for a vibrations-resistant cables for unwavering power supply cannot be exaggerated.
It has the ability to work in extremely cold surroundings; the marine environment can get so cold. Its severe cold durability properties supersede the CSA cold bend/ cold impact (-40/-350 C). It is Type X110 and has the highest ampacity ratings of American Bureau of Shipping 1000 C, DetNorske Veritas 950C and Llyod’sRegister of Shipping 950 C. its flame retardancy is IEC 60332-3 Category A and IEEE 1202.
Applications
Type P Marine Shipboard Power Cable is specially designed with insulating and jacketing materials that have high flexibility and great resistance to abrasion and moisture. This power cable is best suitable for environments of offshore drilling, shipboards and petroleum facilities bound for severely cold parts of the world. It’s what I would refer to as an Ideal Cable for a Marine Environment. Worth considering.
