The Copper Tray Cable
Different cables are made of different metals for different purposes. On this post I will share with you about the Copper Tray Cable , what it’s made of, how it’s made and where it can be used. This cable is made of copper and appears in a set of two wires compacted together. It is constructed with a soft galvanized class B copper. The galvanized annealed copper undertakes the process of slowly cooling after the metal has been heated, releasing internal stress within the copper metal to form a flexible electrode. This cable is designed for installations in raceway, cable trays and in conduits. It can also be used for outdoor applications.
The copper metal used to make the tray cable is a stranded bare and class B as per the UL 62. It is insulated with an extruded polyvinyl chloride and a nylon jacket, which has a thickness of 0.004 inches intended for Type TFFN per UL 66 and the Type THHN/THWN per UL 83 insulation is also done with the extruded PVC alongside the nylon jacket with a thickness of 0.004 inches, whereas the type 10AWG is 0.005 inches thick. The materials used in making the type TC tray cable is tested with the following standards;
- The NEC article 336
- The UL subject 1277
- The passes IEEE 383 flame test and
- The UL 1277 type TC-Extended Run (ER).
The conductor is cabled with filler to make round compacted core.
The features and Benefits of copper tray cable.
The Copper tray cable has some special features that enhance its performance in the role that it plays in the electric power transmission.
The Tray Cable insulation material used are very many including the polyvinyl chloride (PVC), ethylene propylene rubber (EPR), cross linked polyethylene and the Hypalon. Every type of material used in insulating this cable has its own aspect that help in protecting the cable in different kind of environment. For instance, the PVC is non-biodegradable, a quality that prevents the cable from rotting when installed. The insulation makes it resistant to several harmful elements including heat and moisture. Moreover, it often has 2 to 3 layers of insulation.
The conductor is made of soft bare copper metal per ASTM class B which is stranded concentrically. Copper cables transmit electric current faster because copper naturally has a high conduction rate. The copper metal is also strong enough to withstand bending without breaking easily, thanks to its high tensile strength. This make its installation easy without worrying too much about it breaking.
Applications of the copper Tray Cable
This cable is designed for use in the cable trays, conduits and in the raceways. It could also be installed in outdoor applications with enough support messenger wire. It is frequently used in industrial works supply power to electric appliances like motors.
Copper tray cable is suitable for use in the class 1 and the class 2, division 2 dangerous environmental conditions and for the installation in trays, ducts, troughs and wire-ways. The Copper Tray Cable has a seamless power conduction as well as a unique jacketing which increases its lifespan. I therefore recommend that you go for it to realize quality, reliable and long lasting result.
