Also Known As:
Aluminum urd cable, urd direct burial cable, three conductor cable, tri plex wire, triplex cable, triplex aluminum underground wire, 3 conductor power cable, aluminum triplex, underground triplex, triplex underground cable, triplex wire underground, direct burial triplex, triplex conductor, direct burial electrical cable, direct burial power cable, aluminum direct burial cable.
Conductors:
Aluminum conductors used for this cable are designed in either concentric strand or in compressed series. The advantage with a compressed conductor is the reduced bulkiness. Compressed conductors are also stronger and tougher; the stranded conductors are highly flexible and tend to have lower electrical resistance. Stranded conductors therefore reduce power loss and are also easier to use in applications where flexibility is vital. Aluminum 600 V URD cable has three aluminum conductors.
Insulation:
Versatile insulation system made of cross linked black polyethylene material helps to secure the cable conductors. This insulation is water tight, repulsive to corrosive substances, resistant to oil, heat and flame. Cross linking a polyethylene helps to achieve an excellent strength that makes the material suitable for covering this cable used in harsh conditions like direct burial installation.
QUESTIONS & ANSWERS
Ask a Question-
Hi what is the wrapped diameter of 350 mcm URD Triplex. so that’s total width of the 3 wires wrapped together? Does ampacity in duct mean conduit?
The neutral wire is about 4/0 AWG in size while the single phase conductor is 0.851 inches. When all three conductors are wrapped together it is estimated to be around 2.5 inches in diameter. Ducts and conduits are more or less the same thing so their effect on the cables is the same; they are used for channeling the wire in a given direction. However, an ampacity range is often used in ducts.

Hi what is the wrapped diameter of 350 mcm urd triplex?
When we talk of the size of urd triplex wire in terms of AWG sizes, it is about 350 mcm. The diameter of the wire is about 1.736 and the single phase conductor is relatively 0.851 inches. Moreover the insulation thickness is about 95 mils.

Looking to run cable from my existing house panel to a garage 180\' away. Will the 2/0 -2/0-1 converse triplex aluminum work or will there be too much voltage drop?
Not really, the triplex aluminum wire can transmit current over long distances as long as it does not exceed 1000 ft. If the distance is within this range (180’ definitely is), then no instances of voltage drop will be experienced.

I’m looking at this Monmouth triplex alum wire 4/0 4/0 4/0. I wanting to use it as an entrance wire for my new modular home. I need to run it underground about 40 feet from pole to the house. will this work for me?
Yes, the Monmouth aluminum wire can play this role perfectly since it is specifically designed for underground secondary distribution circuits. Furthermore, it can transmit power of up to 600 volts over such long distances so it will work.
-
The wire that is 4/0-4/0-2/0 sweetbriar triplex aluminum conductor 600V would this wire be enough or smaller to wire up a 240-volt spa from the panel to a quick disconnect box. if it will work or can I go a smaller wire?
The Sweetbriar triplex aluminum wire can support this application as long as the voltage rating does not exceed 600 volts and 240v is way less so you could even a smaller wire with a rating slightly higher than 240. So, if you have the wire, you can use it, if you don’t have it you can buy a smaller one. Furthermore, it can support the application if it is installed through underground means or ducts.
-
I was looking at the converse triplex URD 2/0, is this a great wire to run inside of conduit?
The cable can be installed in conduits, ducts or through direct burial so long as the temperature does not exceed 90°C. So, yes, you can run it inside a conduit.

I am building a home. The 200amp service panel is 360ft away from the meter. The utility transformer is within 12ft of the meter. I\'m looking at buying the 250-250-3/0 PRATT Triplex Aluminum Conductor 600V URD. Will this wire cable meet my needs?
Yes, the pratt triplex aluminum conductor can supply current of up to 345 amps if used for direct burial and 265 amps if it is installed in ducts. So it will meet your needs.
