Description:
This is an industrial service entrance cable that uses copper as the conductors. It is mainly used in service drop applications. Service drop simply means when large voltages reach the transformer through secondary distribution lines, it is toned down to lower voltages to make safe for use in residential homes. The copper ser cable is suitable for this application since it can transmit power of up to 600 volts and can withstand extremely high temperatures of 90°C.

Furthermore it is incorporated with a bare grounding wire which enhances safety from effects of excess current. It also has a sturdy jacket and insulation which provides maximum protection even in extremely harsh environments. The insulation is reinforced with a tape which enhances the toughness of the cable. Lastly the copper conductors are also resistant to effects of corrosion and rusting which makes the ser wire durable.

Product details:
• Flame retardant jacket
• Bare grounding wire
• Meets or exceeds industrial standards
• Available for 2 or 3 phase applications
• Available in various AWG sizes
• Heat and sunlight resistant
• XHHW-2 or THWN/THHN copper conductors
• Can produce a current of up to 250 amps
• Flexible cable

Insulation:
The insulation is made of cross-linked polyethylene. In case of THWN/THHN conductors PVC insulation is used. Both materials are resistant to sunlight, heat, abrasion, water and chemicals.

Jacketing:
Ser cable has a nylon jacket. The jacket protects the cable from external damage. They can also act as an insulating material since nylon is a poor conductor of electricity. The jacket is resistant to moisture, heat, abrasion, sunlight, impact and chemicals.

Applications of copper ser cable:
• Power transmission from transformer to residential homes
• Branch circuits
• Circuit panel boards
• Service entrance applications
• Indoor and outdoor applications

Industrial Approvals:
• Federal specifications
• Flame retardant
• National Electric Code

QUESTIONS & ANSWERS

Ask a Question
  • I would like to know how many mil's SER cable I can pull through 1-1/4 in sched 40?

These cables come in a wide range of mil’s depending on the conductor AWG sizes. The ideal size you can pull through 11/4 is up to 35 mils.

  • I bought some cable from your store and I'm Washington State. 3-3-3-5 is not to code in a conduit. What can I use from the crawl space to the other sub panel?

Sorry about your troubles. The 3-3-3-5 is adequately insulated for direct burial so you can just bury it underground between the sub-panels. If that’s not possible, you can use trays.

  • What is the 3-3-3-5 copper SER cable rated to temperature wise?

3-3-3-5 copper SER cable is a 600V cable which is insulated with XLPE. The insulation holds off temperatures of up to 90°C. Above that temperature, the conduction maybe adversely affected.

  • I’m just trying to figure out the difference in 3335 SER & 3335 SEU?

By definition, SER means Service Entrance with Reinforcement. SEU on the other hand means Service Entrance Unarmored. So, ideally, these are both very reliable service entrance cables. Service entrance in this context means that they distribute power from the mains to the end user. The fundamental difference is the SER is armored and has a reinforcement which gives it better structural rigidity while SEU is a little weaker. Both are direct burial type of cables.
