SER 4-4-4-6
Aluminum Service Entrance cable is used to carry electricity from the service drop to the meter base and from the meter base to the distribution panel board. 4-4-4-6 SER is on the smaller side of the spectrum of aluminum SER cable. This version of cable is not suitable to supply power to a dwelling, but is useful in powering large appliances and motors requiring less than 75 amps. Its most common use if to power small one-man work shops or workstations that require their own power supply from the service drop. The cable offers a temperature rating of 55 amps at 60°C, 65 amps at 75°C, and 75 amps at 90°C.
The cable is constructed with three 4-gauge Alumaflex AA-8000 series aluminum alloy compact stranded phase conductors and one 6-gauge neutral ground conductor constructed with the same Alumaflex material. Each phase conductor is insulated in thermoplastic Type XHHW-2 Tray Cable or Type THHN/THWN conductors are available options for this cable. Conductors are encased in a polyvinyl chloride jacket to protect from heat and sunlight damage. Type SE has also proven to be able to function well in excessively dry or moist climates.
