Product Details
Type MC-HL Armored marine cable is made of bare annealed compacted and stranded copper conductor in accordance to ASTM B3 and ASTM B 496. Annealing is the process of making the copper conductor soft and malleable keeping its good electrical conductive properties intact. The conductors are shielded longitudinally with ESS, semi conducting layer meeting the requirements of ICEA S-93-639 as well as UL 1072. ESS refers to Extruded Strand Shield. It is insulated with an EPR then shielded with EIS (Extruded Insulation Shield) that creates a free stripping from the insulator and an overall 5 mil shield of annealed copper tape with 25% overlap encasing the copper conductors’ assembly.
A grounding conductor which acts as the neutral path is also made of the same copper wires as the live conductors and sized in accordance to NEC Article 250 and UL 1072. It is laid bare to the conductors’ assembly and a binder tape applied on it holding it to the cabled core. It is then armored with the CCW (Continuously Corrugated and Welded) and jacketed with the polyvinyl chloride. This cable is branded as a top quality power cable because it is in line with the requirements of UL, CEA, and NEC standards.
Why go for this Cable?
Triple Extrusion of the conductor strand shield, EPR insulation shield and the copper tape shield offers undisputed stress control to the cable. This type of shielding will prevent the copper conductors from collapsing in case the cable falls during installation or when it get hit. Shielding also prevents direct attacks to the cable thus improving the electrical conductivity of the cable.
This cable has a cold bend of -55 degrees Celsius, meaning that it can distribute power conveniently even in areas experiencing cold temperatures as low as -55 degrees Celsius. It can as well perform in dry areas with temperatures at 105 degrees and 140 degrees for emergency power lines, and 250 degrees for short circuit wiring systems.
CCW armor creates a permanent barrier to moisture, liquids and gas from entering the cable as per the UL 1072 and NEC grounding specification standards. The copper conductors are insulated separately with Ethylene Propylene Rubber and shielded from the bare grounding wire, why? To ensure that there is no contact between the live conductors and the neutral path, which would lead to power faults in your system. EPR insulation and PVC jacketing protects the cable from chemical and mechanical damages that this cable may get subjected to in the outdoor environmental conditions.
Applications
This CCW armored power cable is a cost alternative to labor intensive cables in conduit wiring system, making it an ideal cable of choice for power distribution. It is applied in feeders and branch circuit systems installed through metal racks, cable trays, raceways and troughs. Primarily deployed in shipboard marine applications.
