DLO Cables
DLO Cables
Diesel Locomotive Cables just as their names suggest are special wire products made for heavy duty locomotives. However, they are highly versatile cables which can be put to a wide range of applications. They are used in power transmission through oil rigs, ship yards and other mining machinery.
The mining and steel industries can be one of the harshest conditions that call for flexible cables. Some of the most ideal cables to use in these industries are DLO cables. Diesel Locomotive Cables (DLO) are constructed purposefully to supply power within diesel engines. This group of cables is also used as portables cords for diesel vehicles, railroad and transit car wiring, motor heads, telecom power supply, drilling rigs and control cable jumper.
DLO cables are often used in wet or dry areas with temperature ratings of 900 C in dry areas and 750 C in wet environments. DLO cables can supply up to 2000 kilovolts making them heavy duty cables. They come in different sizes depending on the area of application. You can find DLO cables from size 14 AWG to 1111 circular mil.
Construction
DLO cables are available in four parts; a conductor, separator, insulation and jacket. A DLO cable is a single conductor cable made of annealed tinned copper. Depending on what the cable is used for, the copper may at times be left bare. Copper is deemed to be the most ideal conductor because it is a strong electrode and very durable. The copper is tinned otherwise it would easily corrode. DLO cables are insulated with a thermoset compound such as Ethylene propylene diene (EPDM) or ethylene propylene rubber (EPR).
The insulation makes the cable highly flexible and is resistant to cuts and scrapes. Between the conductor and the insulator is a separator that makes it easy to strip off the insulator during installation. DLO cables from Nassau Electrical have a chlorosulfonated polyethylene (CSPE) jacket. The jacket protects the conductor and the insulator. The outer jacket is resistant to acids, alkali and cuttings.
Why go for DLO Cables?
DLO cables are safe for use and have been approved by Underwriters Laboratories, Canadian Standard Association and the Mine Safety and Health Administration. The wide range of DLO cable size makes it possible to be used in a several areas of application.
