Nassau National Cable’s selection of Bare Copper Wire meets ASTM specifications and is available in four different classifications; Class AA, Class A, Class B, and Class C.
Class AA Bare Copper Wire is made for use as overhead transmission line. This classification of copper is one of the most rigid types of copper wire. Rigidity is a useful trait when installing overhead lines because more flexible cables tend to sag over time. Class AA Bare Copper Wire shows minimal sagging and offers extremely powerful conductivity.
Bare Copper Wire Classes A thru C are typically used with a weatherproof jacket or insulation and they are rated according to flexibility. These cables are more commonly used in direct burial, conduit, cable tray, and approved raceway applications. Class A Bare Copper Wire offers increased flexibility compared to Class AA, but falls on the more rigid side of the spectrum of Bare Copper Wire. Class A Bare Copper Wire is used when flexibility is not a major factor, or when a more rigid cable is needed.
Class B and C Bare Copper Wire is preferred when flexibility is required. These cables undergo a process in which they are heated and slowly cooled. The process releases internal stress within the copper, enhancing its flexibility. The end product is a malleable copper cable that offers the same powerful conductive properties as standard cable.
Applications:
Solid and stranded (classes AA and A) bare copper are suitable for overhead transmission and distribution applications. Stranded conductor of greater flexibility (classes B and C) are suitable for uninsulated hook up, jumpers, and grounds in electrical construction. Soft Drawn copper is unilay construction.
Specifications:
Bare copper wire and cable meets or exceeds the following ASTM specifications:
- B-1 Hard-Drawn Copper Wire.
- B-2 Medium-Hard Copper Wire.
- B-3 Soft or Annealed Copper Wire.
- B-787 19 Wire Combination Unilay-Stranded Soft copper wire.
- B-8 Concentric-Lay-Stranded Hard, Medium-Hard or Soft Copper Conductor.
Construction:
Bare copper, solid or stranded. Available in tempers hard, medium-hard, or soft. Stranded conductors are concentrically stranded in hard and medium-hard tempers and are Combination Unilay stranded in the soft-drawn temper.
