General Cable Category 3 Plenum®

General Cable Category 3 Plenum®

Product Details

There is no big difference between Category 3 Plenum cable and Category 3 Non-plenum cable discussed above, apart from the plenum air conditioning space. However, this category 3 plenum cable is made of a solid annealed bare copper conductor that is insulated with a semi rigid Polyvinyl Chloride (PVC), which is flame retardant. The assembly is encased with a rip cord and jacketed with another layer of PVC. It is tested and approved to meet the following international standards:

1.ICEA S-90-661
2.NEC/CEC type CMP for Plenum
3.RoHS Compliant Directive 2011/65/EU
4.ANSI/TIA 568-C.2

Why go for this Cable?
It has a double-walled protective insulation and jacketing layer made of polyvinyl chloride, providing a superior protection to adverse environmental conditions. Imagine a cable that is double-walled with the tough PVC which is flame retardant, moisture resistant and sunlight resistant like this category 3 plenum cable in your wiring system. Durability of electrical cables is majorly based on the level of insulation they have; some have a single layer of insulation whereas some have both the insulation and jacketing layer. The more complex the insulation layer is, the more durable the cable become.

What is a rip cord? Well, just as the name may suggest it is a mark that is ripped off. Category 3 plenum cable is instilled with a rip cord longitudinally under the PVC jacketing layer. During installation, you may need to cut off or peal the jacketing and insulation layer to wire your cable to the equipment. This is where the rip cord comes handy, as you will not require the use of ‘’knives’’ to remove the outer layer but instead use the rip cord. Thanks to the manufactures of this cable because they made our work easier when installing this cable in our wiring systems.

If you are interested in an electrical cable that is properly insulated and jacketed to offer good electrical conductivity, go for category 3 cable. It is a tested and approved electrical cable with plenum that comes in different sizes in accordance to the clients’ specification, with a removable rip cord and ready for use.

Applications
Just as category 3 non-plenum cable, this cable is also primarily designed for use in telecommunications, Automated Teller Machines (ATMs) and Token rings.
