Product Details
The METAL CLAD CABLE (ALUMINUM ARMOR) is composed of solid-stranded or 19-stranded multiple bunched thermoplastic high-heat, nylon coated copper wires (also available with nylon water-resistant coating for outdoor use) and a green color-coded insulated copper conductor ground wire, all encased in a sturdy Al(aluminum) intermeshed jacket device.
Available in gauge sizes of 2,4,6,8,10, 12 and 14 AWG, and well-suited to configure 2, 3, or 4 conductors, the Metal Clad Cable can be customized and configured to a variety of specialized hidden and exposed overground indoor and outdoor applications, including plaster embedding, lighting and power distribution to industrial, residential and commercial buildings, as well as management of traffic signalling units. Additionally, this Metal Clad cable type can be used in installations to vertical cable trays and raceway control circuits. The Metal Clad Cable boasts a voltage rating of 600 V and a temperature range of 60, 75 and 90 degrees Celsius of ampacity. The lightweight industrial aluminum alloy insulated jacket of this cable type also works to a strong capacity as a reliable conduit agent.
For direct underground indoor or outdoor uses and installations, additional weatherproofing with a PVC jacket shielding the copper wires remains professionally and strongly recommended, and is available upon customization request.
Product Highlights:
- The Metal Clad Cable(Aluminum Armor) ranges between 2-14 AWG and holds well to meet configurations of 2, 3 or 4 conductors.
- Available in 60, 75 or 90 degree Celsius ampacities, the Metal Clad Cable(Aluminum Armor) has a wide range of electrical current carrying capacities easily adaptable to meet the standards of numerous project applications.
- Solid and 19 stranding is available for optimal choice and versatility
- The aluminum armor makes this particular configuration ~45-50% lighter than comparable stainless-steel-jacketed Metal Clad cables
- In addition being lightweight, the Metal Clad Aluminum Armor configuration is a preferred and cost-effective client choice over existing or prospective pipe and wire installations
Technical Standards
UL 44 Thermoset-Insulated Wires and Cables: requirements for single-conductor and multiple-conductor thermoset-insulated wires and cables rated 600 V, 1000 V, 2000 V, and 5000 V. Only soft-annealed copper, copper-clad aluminum, or an aluminum alloy shall be used for the conductor or conductors in a wire or cable, with 7 to 19 strands.
UL 83 Thermoplastic-Insulated Wires and Cables: requirements for 600V, single conductor thermoplastic-insulated wire and cables
UL 1479 Standard for Fire Tests of Penetration Firestops: requirements for penetration firestops of various materials and construction that are intended for use in openings in fire resistive wall, floor or floor-ceiling assemblies, and membrane type penetration firestops of various materials and construction that are intended for use in openings in fire resistive wall assemblies.
UL 1569 Standard for Metal-Clad Cables: round or flat metal-clad cables that contain 18 AWG - 2000 kcmil insulated circuit conductors with or without one or more optical-fiber members, all enclosed in armor consisting of interlocked metal strip or a smooth or corrugated metal tube.
UL 1581 VW-1 Reference Standard for Electrical Wires, Cables, and Flexible Cords/Vertical Wire Test
CSA FT4 Vertical Flame Test :a vertical-tray fire test for determining values of cable damage height and smoke release from electrical and optical-fiber cables when the cables are subjected to a flaming ignition source.
UL 1685 Standard for Vertical-Tray Fire-Propagation and Smoke-Release Test for Electrical and Optical-Fiber Cable: a vertical-tray fire test for determining values of cable damage height and smoke release from electrical and optical-fiber cables when the cables are subjected to a flaming ignition source.
