Aluminum URD Direct Burial Wire
What is Direct Burial cable? Direct Burial Cable is a type of electrical wire, it can be buried directly underground without any pipe, sheath or extra covering materials.
Aluminum cable is the preferred material for most overhead and direct burial lines because it is usually the most cost-efficient way to cover a large span. Nassau Electrical Supply carries a great selection of aluminum overhead and URD direct burial cables to suit your needs.
Most of the aluminum overhead and URD direct burial cables in Nassau Electrical Supply’s inventory are made with aluminum 1350-H19. This aluminum alloy is specifically engineered to offer optimal conductive properties, tensile strength and corrosion resistance. It also offers superior flexibility compared to standard aluminum which makes the cable more manageable during installation. The alloy is composed with 99.5% aluminum along with copper, iron, magnesium and other elements to create a durable, long-lasting cable with excellent conductive properties.
Aluminum overhead and URD direct burial cables are designed to transmit secondary distribution over long distances. The basic construction of these cables is a concentric-lay-stranded aluminum alloy conductor with an insulation or jacket to protect from abrasion, sunlight and abrasion. Nassau Electrical Supply offers a variety of constructions, however, including duplex, triplex and even quadruplex aluminum overhead and URD direct burial cables to facilitate multiple circuits with one cable.
The conductors are insulated with cross-linked polyethylene (XLPE) insulation, which serves to protect the conductors from sunlight, moisture, dryness, high temperatures, chemicals, and oil. Cross-linked polyethylene is a thermoset material that is extremely durable, flexible and resilient. Other insulation types are available to best suit the environment or task in which they will be assigned.
The cables in this category are typically strung overhead or directly buried, but can also be installed in ducts or cable tray. They are approved to transmit voltages of up to 600 volts.
