4/0-3 ASD-VFD Tray Cable

For those who need cables to use in ASD / VFD applications, the 4/0-3 tray cable may be a good fit. This cable is manufactured according to all of the guidelines listed in the National Electrical Code. This includes IEEE 383 and IEEE 1202/CSA FT-4. It also includes UL Standard 1277, ICEA T29-520, and is flame rated. It is also rated for CT use and may be directly buried for underground use. This cable is also RoHS compliant. It has been designated by the NEC as useful in all hazardous locations that have been designated as Class I, Division 2, Class II, Division 2, or Class III, Divisions I and II.

Description:

3 conductors, stranded, insulated with heat and moisture resistant cross-linked polyethylene, phase identified, cabled together with suitable fillers and 3 symmetrical bare copper ground conductors. Cable core covered with 5-mil helical copper tape shield, and overall flame and sunlight resistant black PVC jacket. Surface printed. Jacket available in colors.

Features:

  • Suitable for use in NEC Hazardous Locations: Class I - Div 2, Class II - Div 2, and Class III, Div 1 and 2.
  • For use in ASD / VFD applications.
  • Standards: UL 1277
  • Flame Rated: IEEE 383 (70,000 BTU), ICEA T-29-520 (210,000 BTU) on 1/0 and larger IEEE 1202 / CSA FT-4 Two-hour Firewall rated, (2/0 AWG and smaller)Sunlight Resistant, for CT Use; Direct Burial Oil Resistant II
  • JacketCode: Black and Numbered
  • Temperature Rating: 90?C Wet / Dry ICEA S-95-658 / NEMA WC-70
  • Exposed runs rated #4 and larger 600 Volt Tray Cable RoHS Compliant.

Specifications:

The 4/0-3 ASD-VFD tray cable has three conductors and three symmetrical bare copper ground wires. The conductors are stranded with a stranding of 19 Al/Stl and are cabled together with the grounds. This core is then covered with a 5-mil helical copper tape shield. The conductors are also insulated with a cross-linked polyethylene insulation that is highly resistant to moisture and heat. The nominal thickness of this insulation is 55 mm, and the entire assembly is then covered in a sunlight and flame-resistant PVC jacket that is 80 mils thick. The jacket can be surface printed and is available in a variety of colors or basic black.

This cable’s allowable ampacity is 260 amps at 30 degrees C. It is rated for 600 volts. A spool of 1,000 feet of this cable is 2,982 pounds.

Applications:

These cables are used to connect a variable frequency drive (a VFD) to an AC motor. This allows the speed to be adjusted as necessary by changing the voltage and the motor input frequency. By doing this, the motor will actually use less power and perform better. ASD-VFD cables can be used in many different motors, including those found in conveyor belts, fans, and water pumps.
