EPR-CPE Power Cable Type TC with Grounding Conductor
Product Description:
This cable is a multi-conductor cable that employs 500 MCM (Million Cubic Metre) stranded tinned copper conductors. The individual conductors are insulated with flame retardant ethylene-propylene (EPR) rubber. The phase conductors are black and numbered for identification. A tinned copper ground conductor is included in the assembly. The conductors are tethered together with an electrical tape and jacketed with a chlorinated polyethylene (CPE) that is resistant to sunlight and oil.
Applications:
This cable is designed for use in industrial projects and utility applications. It is most commonly used in conduit, cable tray, with support by messenger wire, or direct burial if approved. The cable can be used for signal circuits, lighting, control, or power distribution. This cable can be used in a wide range of climates and environments as well. The outer jacket is flame-retardant, making the cable suitable for use in hazardous areas with a higher risk of fire. The cable can function in wet or dry conditions, making it suitable for desert or tropical regions or at sea.
Specifications:
- In accordance with the American Society for Testing and Materials, a compliance organization, tinned copper components of this cable are classified as class B. The product adheres to ASTM class B Standards B-8 and B-33, requiring the copper and tinned copper to exhibit predetermined ratings for tensile strength and resistivity.
- This cable also aligns with Underwriters Laboratories (UL), a compliance and regulations organization, Standard 1277, which requires multi-conductor cables to be able to function in wet or dry conditions in temperatures up to 75°C.
- The exterior jacket and insulation of the cable adhere to UL Standard 1581 and 1685, which require the cable to be altogether flame-retardant. The cable passes IEEE 383 Flame Test.
Construction:
- Phase Conductors
- There are three or more phase conductors incorporated into this cable depending on the size of the task at hand. Conductors are stranded tinned copper for optimal conductivity. The addition of tin plating to the copper conductors enhances the coppers conductive properties while adding a shield to prevent oxidation. Tinned copper on average lasts ten times longer than bare copper.
- Ground Conductor
- The Ground conductor is an uninsulated tinned copper stranded conductor. The ground conductor’s purpose is to keep the phase conductors grounded to ensure steady conductivity.
- Insulation
- Each phase conductor is insulated with Ethylene Propylene rubber (EPR). EPR is a flame retardant material that also protects the cables against abrasion.
- Jacketing
- The outer jacket of the assembly is a thermoplastic Chlorinated Polyethylene that is flame-retardant. The outer jacket also defends the conductors from damage from sunlight, moisture, heat, dryness, and corrosive chemicals.
