Prysmian Cable 3/C has annealed copper conductors as per Class B for concentrically stranded aluminum ASTM 1350. Three conductors are shielded together with an extruded polymeric thermosetting compound that is a semiconducting layer. The shielded conductors are then coated with EPROTENAX EPR-based insulator for protection thence enhancing electrical and mechanical attributes of the cable increasing the cable life. 

Extruded Insulation Shield covers the EPR insulation controlling the amount of stress acting on the conductors. Insulation shield also provides the required balance between the ease of stripping as well as the electrical integrity. A metallic shield made of non-magnetic copper tape with 15% overlap is helically applied on the assembly holding it firmly in position. Grounding conductor is longitudinally laid on the core and then wrapped with a binder tape holding the grounding wire firmly on the cable eliminating overlap.

Extruded high strength Air Bag layer over the core assembly is crush resistant providing a superb mechanical protection. Outdoor cables are exposed to very demanding environmental conditions that may cause deformations to the cable. Prysmian 3/C cable has a Drylam layer and the tough PVC jacketing.

It is made of lightweight materials that require less effort to handle especially when lifting it and moving it for transportation or when installing it. Aluminum1350 and soft drawn copper conductors are soft and malleable rendering the entire cable flexible.

Shielding
The extruded thermosetting polymeric compound are semiconducting layers that do not allow electrical power leakages. Shielding of this cable improves its good electrical conductivity by controlling the impacts of stress. It is an additional protection to the cable.

Insulation
5-35KV medium voltage cable’s insulation is made of Ethylene Propylene Rubber (EPR) whichhas EPROTENAX, which provides a high dielectric strength. Insulation of distribution cables should be considered as it has a direct bearing on the life of the user as well as the cable. Insulation is generally made of semiconducting materials to prevent the user from unnecessary electrocution. It protects the cable against chemical and mechanical damages. Jacketing
Prysmian Airguard medium voltage power cable is designed with a Drylam layer consisting of aluminum tape and a chemical resistance polymeric layer. The Air Bag protects the cable form deformations whereas the PVC jacketing layer is flame retardant and ensures that the cable remains free of moisture. PVC is sunlight resistant and environmentally friendly since it releases less smoke in case of fire outbreak.

Applications
This cable is primarily designed and manufactured for commercial and industrial applications with an operational power voltage rating of 5 to 35kV. It is installed through; conduit air, cable tray, direct burial, underground duct, isolated in air, or as a messenger wire.
