SKS is a high temperature cable made of annealed tinned copper. In high temperatures, copper tends to oxidize fast but with the tin coating, it helps reduce oxidation. Tin does not oxidize and it is touted as one of the best coating material for electrical wires and cables. It offers practical solution to improving the conductivity, longevity, durability, and performance of copper wires. Tin prevents corrosion, and enhances the thermal performance and conductivity of SKS wire.
Applications
• A multiple conductor power and control cable for use in high temperature applications needing resistance to hot spills, moisture, abrasion and mechanical abuse.
• This cable is designed for use as soaking pit cable, teeming ladle car cable, slag car cable, and overhead crane cable. It is also used in steel plants and in glass manufacturing plants.
Insulation
• Extruded silicone rubber-braided
• An extruded silicone rubber is used to insulate the wire. This insulation has a fiberglass braid cover applied over each insulated conductor. Silicone offers excellent resistance to oxidation, ozone, abrasion, weather and UV light, as well as heat and moisture. A flame-retardant barrier tape is also applied on the insulation to offer more protection against heat and flame. Tape insulations are intended for more demanding applications for instance, where the wire is exposed to high temperature conditions.
Inner and outer coverings
• Inner jacketing- braided aramid K-fibers
• Outer jacketing – braided stainless steel wire armor
• An outer and inner jacketing is used to enhance the mechanical, physical, and weather performance of the wire. The inner jacketing is made of braided aramid K-fibers with a finish that is resistance to heat, moisture, and flame. The outer covering is made of braided stainless steel armor for improve mechanical strength.
Characteristics
• Silicone formulations suitable for UV, ozone, moisture exposure.
• Cable utilizes Radix “Torque Free” design. This eliminates memory found in traditional right-hand or left-hand twisted cables.
• Suitable for applications to -60°C.
• Binder tape provides moisture resistance.
• Aramid K-fiber braid and stainless steel jacket provide maximum ruggedness.
• Not recommended for outdoor use.
