General Cable Type G-GC Round 6/3 Gauge 2000 Volt Portable Power Cable Super Vu-Tron® Canadian

Product Details

Type G-GC Portable cables are heavy duty industrial grade power cables suited for high power applications like mining. The six gauge three conductor type G-GC is a portable electric cable used for a wide range of high voltage applications. High voltage rated machines work in high risk environments so this cable is tailored to take impacts from loads as the case with mines. The 6/3 G-GC portable cord can be used for both outdoor and underground applications.

Key features
1.Very good abrasion and impact resistance
2.Differently colored insulations for easy identification; black, white and red
3.Rope lay strand adds to its flexibility
4.Non-wicking fillers improves its structural strengths and prevents short circuiting
5.Rounded, fully annealed copper wire
6.CPE Jacket and EPDM insulation

Copper conductors
6 AWG 3C has fully annealed and stranded bare copper conductors which are superb conductors for the 2000 volts distribution. The conductors can safely relay the power in both wet and dry environments as long as the temperatures are within the range of -40°C to +90°C. The conductors are annealed making them soft, flexible and easy to terminate. Three conductors makes it suitable for three phase AC current of up to 87 amps where three conductors and a grounding wire is needed.

These conductors are surrounded with non-wicking fillers to give the cable some structural integrity. They are further stranded in rope-lay and bunched in insulations. The annealing improves the conductors’ efficiency, without interfering with their good electrical conductive properties. Flexibility facilitates easy transportation of the 6/3 type G-GC cable in that it can be folded for convenience in shipments. Rigid cables are difficult to transport because folding them would make the conductors week.

Insulation
6 AWG 3C type G-GC is insulated using premium grade EPDM insulation. There are many grade of ethylene di-ene insulations and the premium grade is the best because it’s water, ultraviolet rays, ozone, weather, solvent, oil and moisture resistant. It can also absorb impulses from abrasive forces like stones in mines. The insulation separates the conductors preventing short circuiting, keeps the conductors safe from elements that would impair power transmission and protects the user from electric shocks. This is important because the 6/3 G-GC power cable carries up to 2000 volts which is fatal in case of a shock.

Jacket
Jackets are additional casing to house the three conductors which make the 6 gauge 3 conductor type G-GC power cable. The cable’s jacket is made of chlorinated polyethylene which is a tough but flexible material, 0.99 inches thick. The thickness of the saturated polyethylene is what takes abrasive impacts to keep them from interfering with the three conductors. It also keep away water, ozone, moisture, weather, oil and solvents.

The jacket is colored black for easy identification.

Ratings and approvals
The 6 AWG 3 conductor type G-GC power cable is approved by a number of international standards as a certification that it has the attributes mentioned on this post. It has the following approvals:

1.UL Listed for type G, G-GC cables
2.Listed for MSHA
3.CSA approved
4.Certified for MSHA Flame test P-122
5.Approved by OSHA
6.Listed for UL 1650
7.RoHS compliant
8.Rated 2000 V for wet and dry locations

Applications of the 6/3 type G-GC cable
This cable has many potential areas of application thanks to its flexibility, durability, oil resistance, weather resistance and abrasion resistance. Here are the most common applications:

1.Light to medium industrial applications for up to 2000 volts, 87 amps
2.Mining applications
3.Portable electrical tools
4.Three phase AC systems which require grounding
5.Heavy duty service as a power supply cable

The 6/3 is sold per foot and the longest you can purchase in one go is 1000 feet.
