Product Details
Product Description:
The ASD-VFD Shielded Tray Cable is a triple-conductor cable that features three soft annealed copper phase conductors to transmit ampacities of up to 600 volts. The annealed copper used in this cable offers superior flexibility compared to standard copper. Annealed copper undergoes a process in which it is heated and slowly cooled, removing interior stress from the copper to make the cable tougher, but more malleable. The copper conductors are insulated in heat and moisture resistant crosslinked polyethylene. The cable also includes three symmetrical bare copper ground conductors. The ground conductors serve to ensure steady conductivity through the phase conductors. The assembly of conductors is fitted with suitable fillers to avoid shifting, and then covered with a shield of 5-mil helical copper tape. The cable bears a black polyvinyl chloride outer jacket that is resistant to flame, sunlight, ozone, moisture, and chemicals.
Applications:
ASD-VFD Tray Cable is designed for use in Adjustable Speed Drive (sometimes referred to as Variable Speed Drive or Variable Frequency Drive) applications. ASD’s are most commonly used to drive AC motor speed and torque in industrial applications using varying voltages and frequencies. Their purpose is to adjust current as needed to reduce excess voltages that drive up energy costs. This cable passes IEEE 70,000 BTU flame test as well as the ICEA T-29-520 210,000 BTU flame test. The cable’s heat and flame tolerance makes the cable suitable for installation in locations with an increased risk of fire. The cable is designed for installation in cable tray and is most often found in factories, plants, and refineries.
Specifications:
- In accordance with specifications set forth by Underwriters Laboratories, a compliance and regulations organization established over 100 years ago, this cable aligns with UL standard 1277, a specification that sets standards for the performance of multi-conductor cables.
- The cable adheres to the regulations specified in ICEA S-95-658/NEMA WC-70. This article sets standards for cross-linked polyethylene insulated cables.
- For exposed runs, this cable is rated TC-ER for #4 AWG and larger.
- The cable is compliant with Restriction of Hazardous Substances directive.
- The ASD-VFD Tray Cable Shielded passes IEEE 383 70,000 BTU flame test, ICEA T-29-520 210,000 BTU, and IEEE 1202/CSA FT-4 Flame Test.
Construction:
- Conductors
- The ASD-VFD Shielded Tray Cable is a triple-conductor cable that features three soft annealed copper phase conductors to transmit ampacities of up to 600 volts.
- The annealed copper used in this cable offers superior flexibility compared to standard copper.
- Annealed copper undergoes a process in which it is heated and slowly cooled, removing interior stress from the copper to make the cable tougher, but more malleable.
- Insulation
- The copper conductors are insulated in heat and moisture resistant crosslinked polyethylene.
- The cable’s conductors are rated XHHW-2.
- The insulation is high heat and water-resistant.
- Ground Conductor
- The cable includes three symmetrical bare copper ground conductors.
- The ground conductors serve to ensure steady conductivity through the phase conductors.
- Assembly
- The assembly includes suitable fillers to ensure the conductors fit snugly within the jacket and will not shift under stress.
- Conductor Shield
- The cable’s core is covered with 5-mil helical copper tape.
- The cable shield’s purpose is to prevent leakage and electrical shock.
- Jacket
- The cable’s exterior jacket is made of polyvinyl chloride (PVC).
- The PVC jacket protects the cable from flame, moisture, sunlight, and chemicals.
- The cable’s standard jacket is black, but colors are available upon request.
