3/0-3 ASD-VFD Tray Cable
The 3/0-3 ASD-VFD tray cable is used in a number of different ASD/VFD environments, mostly as a control cable for motors. All ASD-VFD cables must meet a specific number of guidelines and requirements, including everything specified in the National Electrical Code. In addition to meeting the NEC guidelines, these cables are also flame rated and meet the following:
- UL Standard 1277
- IEEE 383 and 1202 / CSA FT-4
- ICEA T-29-520
- They are RoHS complaint.
Description:
3 conductors, stranded, insulated with heat and moisture resistant cross-linked polyethylene, phase identified, cabled together with suitable fillers and 3 symmetrical bare copper ground conductors. Cable core covered with 5-mil helical copper tape shield, and overall flame and sunlight resistant black PVC jacket. Surface printed. Jacket available in colors.
Features:
- Suitable for use in NEC Hazardous Locations: Class I - Div 2, Class II - Div 2, and Class III, Div 1 and 2.
- For use in ASD / VFD applications.
- Standards: UL 1277
- Flame Rated: IEEE 383 (70,000 BTU), ICEA T-29-520 (210,000 BTU) on 1/0 and larger IEEE 1202 / CSA FT-4 Two-hour Firewall rated, (2/0 AWG and smaller)Sunlight Resistant, for CT Use; Direct Burial Oil Resistant II
- JacketCode: Black and Numbered
- Temperature Rating: 90?C Wet / Dry ICEA S-95-658 / NEMA WC-70
- Exposed runs rated #4 and larger 600 Volt Tray Cable RoHS Compliant.
Specifications:
A 3/0-3 ASD-VFD tray cable features three conductors and three symmetrical bare copper ground conductors. The live conductors are stranded (19 Al/Stl) and have a size of 3/0 AWG. They are protected by a cross-linked polyethylene insulation that resists heat and moisture. The insulation is phase identified and has a nominal thickness of 55 mm. Both conductors are then cabled together and protected via a 5-mil helical copper tape shield. The shield is then covered by a PVC jacket with a thickness of 80 mils. This jacket is resistant to flame and sunlight, giving the wire even more protection. The cable’s overall complete diameter is 1.390 inches.
3/0-3 ASD-VFD wire has an allowable ampacity of 225 amps at 30 degrees C. It’s rated for 600 volts.
Applications:
A 3/0-3 cable is often used to connect AC motors to variable frequency drives. These types of drives are used in many different electro-mechanical systems to change the torque and the speed of the motor. By varying the motor input frequency and the voltage, the speed changes, which can actually provide better performance and even help conserve power. These cables are often found in fans, conveyors, water pumps, and more.
The 3/0-3 ASD-VFD cable may be used in a variety of environments (both wet and dry) where the operating temperature will not climb above 90 degrees C. This include a number of NEC Hazard Locations.
