Description:
THHN is an acronym which infers Thermoplastic high heat resistant nylon while thwn refers to a thermoplastic cable with heat and water resistant nylon. These acronyms describe the capabilities of the insulation which is hardened by heating under controlled temperatures then cooled slowly over a period of time. The nylon protects the thhn thwn wire from the adverse effects of sunlight and moisture.
The thhn thwn-2 copper wires are available in various gauge sizes, with each having different levels of amperage it can support. 14 to 12 AWG cables can only support 12 amperes with is meant for small household equipment. 14 AWG is also suitable for power transmission to public lights due to its resistance to moisture and dryness. On the other hand a larger version is available which can support larger house equipment since it has a higher ampere rating.
Lastly, the conductors are annealed which improves the flexibility of the cable. Enhanced flexibility allows lengthy cables to be fitted in a constricted area.
Features:
• Oil and moisture resistant
• Flame retardant
• Temperature rating of 90°C
• Sturdy jackets and insulation
• Stranded copper conductors
• Color coded conductors
• Available in various gauge sizes
• Meets or exceeds international standards
• Good tensile strength
Installation:
Thhn cable can be installed without the use of cable trays and conduits. However the conduits are recommended to protect the cable from breaking and tearing. The cable has also been recommended for direct burial.
Applications:
• Internal wiring of electronics such as TV sets and computers
• Connection of household equipment and lighting circuits
• Service entrance cable
• Feeder cable and branch circuits
• Power distribution in industries
• Domestic and residential applications
• Construction sites
• Marine applications due to water resistant capabilities
• Hazardous location
Compliances:
• IEEE flame test
• Rated for direct burial
• UL listed
• Applications as stipulated by NEC
