14 AWG XHHW – 2 Tray Cable Unshielded Type TC
XHHW – 2 Tray Cable Unshielded Type TC is a copper conductor cable with thermoset, cross-linked polyethylene (XLP) insulation. XHHW – 2 is an upgraded version of XHHW and it is made to meet the specifications and requirements as in UL, ASTM, ICEA and NEMA.
Unique Technical Features of 14 AWG XHHW – 2 Tray Cable Unshielded Type TC The 14/2 XHHW Tray Cable Unshielded Type TC is constructed using stranded, uncoated bare copper conductors as per ASTM standards. It can either be solid or stranded, bare or tinned annealed copper. Even though other alternatives for cable construction are available, the most common type of cable that is generally used for trade purposes are solid or stranded bare copper conductors of 14 AWG sizes. Cables with other gauges and specifications are available too. The insulation of the cable is provided with concentric layers of 90°C cross linked polyethylene (XLP). This XLP compound is specially formulated to provide excellent electrical and physical properties. Each insulated conductor passes the UL VW-1 vertical flame test. The cables are specifically designed to have excellent moisture and sunlight resistance. The cables are rated at 90°C in dry conditions and up to 75°C in wet conditions. The voltage rating of the cables is set at 600 volts.
Specific Applications of 14 AWG XHHW – 2 Tray Cable Unshielded Type TC The 14 AWG XHHW – 2 Tray Cable Unshielded Type TC is specially designed to use in control applications where cable is used in conduit, ducts, trays or racks. The cable is also suitable for applications in free air when supported by a messenger or for direct burial. According to the National Electrical Code articles 318, 340 and 501, the cable is well suited for installations in cable trays.
XHHW – 2 cables are structured in such a way that it is suitable for most current industrial lighting applications or power wiring solutions in conduits, ducts, or other approved raceways, especially when there is high demand for better insulation toughness and better resistance towards moisture and heat. The cables have excellent resistance towards heat, chemicals, oil and moisture. It is also flame retardant and has the ability to withstand harsh environments.
Type XHHW – 2 cables are generally intended for applications in conduit, underground in conduit, or other recognized raceways for services, feeders, and branch-circuit wiring as specified in the National Electrical Code (NEC). The cable is permitted to operate for 600 volt applications in wet or dry locations provided that the temperature does not exceed 90˚C. These types of cables are also suitable for applications that require low leaking circuits and a dielectric constant of 3.5 or less.
Other applications for XHHW – 2 cables include closed environments or populated spaces like auditoriums and public facilities where more stringent specifications are required such as smoke and halogen-free materials. The cable is also suited for use in a broad range of commercial, industrial and utility applications where reliability and performance are in great demand.
