Non-Shielded XLPE 5kV Airport Lighting Cables L-824 Type C
Product Description:
At the center of the L-824 Type C Non-Shielded XLPE Airport Lighting Cable is a single bare copper conductor. The copper conductor is annealed, compressed copper that conforms to the American Society of Testing and Materials (ASTM) B3 and Class B stranded copper wire specification B8. The process of annealing the copper improves the conductor’s flexibility by softening the metal without compromising the copper’s powerful conductive properties. The copper in insulated with a black cross-linked polyethylene. The thermoset polyethylene insulation helps to stabilize the conductive current while adding mechanical strength and corrosion resistance to the cable. This cable meets Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) requirements for Type C cable to be used in underground airport lighting circuits. The cable has a temperature rating of 90°C and can be installed in dry or wet locations.
Applications:
This cable is used for lighting on airport runways, taxiways, and navigational aids as well as for obstruction lightning such as LED, Xenon, and Incandescent light fixtures. The cable is designed for use between the constant current source and the isolating transformers in series lighting circuits. The L-824 Type C cable is a preferred cable for tasks in airport runway lighting because the XLPE insulation has an exceptional resistance to crushing and abrasion. Also, the insulation is resistant to chemicals such as the ones used in the de-icing fluids that are sprayed on the planes and the runway. The cable is compliant with Restriction of Hazardous Substances (RoHS) because it does not contain lead, mercury, or other toxic elements. This cable can be installed in direct burial applications and metallic or non-metallic conduit.
Specifications:
- This cable is in compliance with specifications set forth by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) for L-824 cable Type C cable. The FAA specifications for this particular cable require that the conductor are able to transmit 5,000 Volts of electricity and that the cable is properly insulated.
- In accordance with specifications set forth by the American Society of Testing and Materials (ASTM), the copper components of this cable meet or exceed standard B3 for annealed compressed copper. The copper components also meet ASTM standard B8.
- This product is in compliance with Restriction of Hazardous Substances (RoHS), because it does not contain lead, mercury, or other toxic elements.
Construction:
- Conductor
- The conductive components of this cable are Class B stranded copper. The copper conductor is compressed stranded and annealed to improve the cable’s flexibility.
- Insulation
- The conductor is insulated with a black cross-linked polyethylene. The cross-linked polyethylene provides mechanical strength to the cable while also protecting the conductor from corrosive elements such as chemicals, UV rays, and excessive wetness or dryness.
